The road to the Coffee House Realty Cafe

The journey to the Sunshine State  was not just any adventure. Theo and wife Diane had just sold their home and business in Southern California and were now on a mission; travel the US via road-trip, visualize their new business plan, and find the community that best fit their dream. Not an easy task, the ingredients meant discovering a village rich in culture, history, art, and a town that embraced new businesses and ideas.

Theo grew up in a small hamlet in central Holland where walking, riding a bicycle, and knowing the local business owner was a way of life. Theo is one of seven children whose parents instilled the ideals of preserving tradition, loving family, and respect for others, which are essential elements when living in a tight- knit community.

In December 2003, month 8 of their cross country expedition, Theo and Diane made their way down to Key West, Florida. Could it be Key West? An island in America’s Caribbean? “It just happened,” recalls Theo. “We found a home right away, a cozy cottage located at the end of a lane in Old Town Key West.”  A place where historical homes, museums, art studios, and even a marina were a five minute walk.

Then he found his business location, an old Conch House, this was perfect for his idea, he remembers. This was a great space that he could convert into a gathering place.  It would be the social hub for the community while offering the island’s visitors and locals a refreshing cold drink, delicious cup of organic coffee, and place to share ideas and converse.

A spot to exchange opinions on the island’s art exhibits, local happenings and even political punditry.
A site where he could truly help create the community he envisioned.  Hence, the Coffee House Realty Cafe was born.
Theo’s passion for Key West is apparent and productive. To name a few, he spearheaded the restoration and continued service of the Schooner Western Union, helped create the Caroline Street Business Association, and was instrumental in the clean up efforts of neighboring Wisteria Island.

Theo’s same dedication is prevalent in his real estate business.  Noticeable is his relentless drive and commitment in helping his clients achieve the needs and goals they desire when buying or selling real estate. Theo’s promise to provide property and contractual expertise with due diligence for every real estate deal defines the professionalism he delivers to every client. Theo’s focus is helping clients who understand the unique importance and differentiation of buying, selling, and managing a vacation home or investment property. In his off time Theo can be seen sailing around Key West Harbor or playing Bocce Ball down at the White Street Pier.
